Drawing and writing messages of hope in support of mental health

The Chalk the Walk event took place on Wednesday, May 8 at McArthur Park in Lac La Biche.

LAC LA BICHE - On Wednesday, a group of youth, many of whom were from local schools, participated in the ‘Chalk the Walk’ event, which took place at McArthur Park from 12-2 p.m.

Chalk the Walk is an annual event hosted by Lac La Biche County FCSS as part of Mental Health Week.

Throughout the early afternoon, the kids, as well as some adults, put their artistic abilities to work drawing colourful designs and positive and encouraging and messages with chalk on walkways and other concrete surfaces in McArthur Park.

Lac La Biche County Public Libraries, Portage College, and other organizations also tables set up as part of the event.

There was also an opportunity for those who attended the event to write positive messages on a board, after which they could get their photos taken with it. In addition to spreading the message of love and hope in support of mental health through writing and drawing, Chalk the Walk featured kids’ games, as well as a ‘Mad About Science’ exhibit set up by Lac La Biche County, along with free hot dogs, music and giveaways.
