It's been a lot to grapple with for a group of local athletes over the last few weeks — fortunately for them, they're excellent grapplers.

Seven young female athletes from the Plamondon Wrestling Club have had a championship battles over the last three weeks, coming  home with medals from the Alberta Schools Athletics Association's Alberta Rural provincial championships at the end of February. The ASAA's championships for schools in rural settings was held in Lethbridge.

The same seven were competing this past weekend at the Alberta championships for all schools in Stony Plain.

The Plamondon wrestling club, coached by Darcy James Plamondon, has a roster of athletes from schools around the region, including Ecole Plamondon, the Boyle School, J.A. Williams High School and Ecole Beausejour.

The medalists from the Lethbridge championships were Arianda Egoroff from École Plamondon School, who won the 65kg Bronze medal at the rural championships, Tialandis Guinand from J.A.Williams who was heading to Stony Plain as the 90kg Silver medal winner in rural schools, Emma Plamondon representing Boyle School won the +90kg Gold medal, Danyelle Bouvier from École Beauséjour won the 61kg Bronze medal, Holly Dulmage from École Beauséjour was hoping to advance on her 53kg Bronze ranking from the rurals, Sierra Cloutier from École Beauséjour went as the  50kg Gold medal rural champ, and Emilee Gauthier from École Beauséjour was coming off her recent Gold medal in the 70kg category.

In Stony Plain, the local girls were competing against 110 others from across the province.  There were no boys teams that made the rural championship qualifiers from regional schools.

Results from the ASAC Championships weren't available by POST press time, but we will update this page when results are available.
