Lac La BIche RCMP are searching for suspects after an brazen early morning smash and grab at a Plamondon convenience store that saw thieves make off with an ATM unit.

Police say they got a call at 3 a.m on Monday, Nov. 12 to the Double L Confectionery Store in Plamondon and arrived to find a smashed front door and wall of the long-serving business.

Video surveillance shows suspects in a dark coloured, older model Ford supercab, long box pickup truck, smashing into the building. A chain was wrapped around the ATM and it was dragged out of the building.

ATM Found

Lac La Biche RCMP say they recovered the demolished — and empty — machine alongside a rural road southwest of Hylo on Nov. 15. There was no disclosure from police about the amount of money in the machine when it was stolen, but ATMs can be stocked with upwards of $10,000 depending on their use.

Police are hoping the public can help with the ongoing investigation.

Building shot

RCMP were again in Plamondon later on the same day as the ATM theft, at another business reported damage ... this time from a gunshot.

Police say a 29 year old man trying to put his rifle into the back of his pickup truck accidentally discharged the gun, sending a shot through the side of his truck and into the front wall of the Plamondon Coop. The incident happened at 5 pm., but police say that fortunately no one was injured.  The man is facing charges, but none had been formally sworn by the POST's editorial deadline.
