Members of the Lac La Biche Whitecaps were true to their names as they churned up the Portage Pool waters last week for two afternoons of Swim-A-Thon activity.
Swimming back and forth lengths for a two-hour stretch last Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, some of the swimmers logged more than 200 lengths in the 25-metre pool, the equivalent of swimming five kilometres in two hours.
As a group, about 20 Whitecaps members swam the equivalent of two round-trips from Lac La Biche to Plamondon.
Pledge forms for the number of lengths swam or singular donations were collected for the event, with all funds going to the club. But like any big water splash, the ripples of the fundraising event will spread out for a little while yet.
Whitecaps swimmers will be able to college pledges until the end of the month — Swimmers may collect until March 31 — being able to draw a few more pledges from community members by telling them how they went the extra mile for their club ... one length at a time.
"Swimmers may collect until March 31," said Theroux, encouraging community members to visit the club's facebook page to find out more. "The total fundraising will be available April 1."
