The members of the Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days Association have already decided that this year's event will go sooner - scheduling the weekend event to begin on July 13 instead of the historic August long weekend date - and now they want to know if the community wants this year's event to go faster.
This year's Pow Wow Days midway will feature new rides, new concessions, new games of chance and a new contractor.
"It is with great pleasure that the association has secured the services of West Coast Amusements as the midway company for our 2018 event," said Pow Wow Association director Tim Bean.
For the last several years, the midway contract had been awarded to Wildrose Amusements, but this year, the association directors opted for a change.
"The change in midway companies will allow our community members and visitors to have a new experience at our event," said Bean, detailing other events the West Coast group takes part in, including the Edmonton Exhibition and the Calgary Stampede.

The change is also something the new Pow Wow directors said would happen with many aspects of the community celebration that has been an on-going summer tradition for more than five decades.
"We don't want to be afraid to change things up. We want to make it fresh for the community," Bean told the POST, and added that more changes and surprises are in store. "We're going to be slowly releasing information as we get closer to the date."

In the past several weeks, the association has announced the date change for the event, an increased focus on water activities over the weekend, the inclusion of a precision military horse and rider show, and now the change in rides.
But what will the latest change mean to Pow Wow Days visitors?
"We've had the same rides doing the same thing for quite some time. Same old, same old. So now, we'll have new rides going faster and higher," said Bean, name-dropping a few new rides like the Frenzy, the Supershot Drop Tower and the Yoyo Swing Ride. "They'll get the heart pumping and get the adrenaline flowing."
Free admission
On thing that won't be flowing this year, will be coins and bills from wallets as visitors enter the Pow Wow Grounds.
As part of the latest news about the midway rides, the Pow Wow Association is also confirming that there will be no admission fee to the Pow Wow Grounds this year.
"The 2018 board felt that with the challenge of a slow economy, free admission to the grounds will happen - a benefit to all," noted association director John Mondal.
Pow Wow Association members are continuing to plan for this year's event, and say that more news on the weekend's activities will be announced soon.
"Stay tuned. We've got lots on the go," said Bean.
This year's Pow Wow Days events will run from Friday, July 13 to Sunday, July 15.
