Elk Point RCMP track stolen vehicle leading to arrests

Elk Point, Alberta - On Friday March 15, 2019, the Elk Point RCMP received a report that an A.T.V. was stolen from a residence in Frog Lake First Nations.

Police located a pickup truck with the A.T.V. in the box only a few minutes after the call came in approximately one kilometre away. Elk Point RCMP alongside the Cold Lake Police Dog Service attempted to stop the vehicle using a tire deflation device and the vehicle came to a stop shortly after at a rural residence in the Fishing Lake Metis Settlement.

The truck used in the commission of the offence had also been reported stolen from Cold Lake back in January. While searching the vehicle, police located approximately 600 rounds of ammunition, 11 grams of methamphetamine, a machete and bear mace. Police also located counterfeit money on one suspect, brass-knuckles and a stolen driver's licence on another.

Matthew Francois (25) of Cold Lake First Nation is facing charges of:

- Possession of a controlled substance.

- Flight from police.

- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 X2

- Theft of motor vehicle.

- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

- Unauthorized possession of ammunition in a motor vehicle.

- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

- Possession of counterfeit money.

- Driving while disqualified.

Cody Janvier-Charland (23) of Cold Lake faces charges of:

- Possession of a controlled substance.

- Flight from police.

- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 X2

- Theft of motor vehicle.

- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

- Unauthorized possession of ammunition in a motor vehicle.

- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

- Identity theft.

- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

Levi Cardinal (26) of Lac La Biche faces charges of:

- Possession of a controlled substance.

- Flight from police.

- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 X2

- Theft of motor vehicle.

- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

- Unauthorized possession of ammunition in a motor vehicle.

- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

- Possession of ammunition contrary to order.

- Failure to comply with probation order X2.

- Failure to comply with Recognizance X3.

Sara Mcgillis (20) of Fishing Lake Metis Settlement is charged with:

- Possession of a controlled substance.

- Flight from police.

- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 X2

- Theft of motor vehicle.

- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

- Unauthorized possession of ammunition in a motor vehicle.

- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

- Failure to comply with an Undertaking.

Kayla Desjarlais (24) of Elizabeth Metis Settlement is charged with:

- Possession of a controlled substance.

- Flight from police.

- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 X2

- Theft of motor vehicle.

- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

- Unauthorized possession of ammunition in a motor vehicle.

- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Janelle Smith (24) of Frog Lake First Nation faces charges of:

- Possession of a controlled substance.

- Flight from police.

- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 X2

- Theft of motor vehicle.

- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

- Unauthorized possession of ammunition in a motor vehicle.

- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

- Trafficking in stolen property.

RCMP have not included court dates for the supsects, or whether any were held in custody pending court dates.
