Lac La Biche's Bold Center hosted JV Basketball league games on Saturday, December 15.
Sharks junior basketball teams—Both boys and girls teams— went face to face against their zone rivals, Bonnyville Centralized High School(BCHS) and defeated them at home.
In the girls match up, at the end of the first quarter guests were leading by 1 point but, the junior Sharks quickly caught up and by second quarter's buzzer they were in a lead of 21-13. Girl Sharks maintained their lead throughout rest of the game and ended the game with a comfortable win of 45-24 to BCHS.
Carolina Franke, who is one of the coaches for the girls junior team thinks of the young squad as one of the most disciplined teams she has coached over the years.
"The fact that the girls worked together as a team was really great. They are honestly one of the best teams with the best attitudes that I have ever coached. They really supported each other out there and I think that was the best thing that came out of it," said Franke.
The boys game was also a sensational display for both home and away spectators as the two sides tied the game 45-45 at the final buzzer. Even though Sharks were in a comfortable lead with the score of 19-6, BCHS Juniors caught up and almost turned the game. The game went to five minutes of overtime which decided the match in the home team's favour with only 3 points separating the two sides. The final scores were 55-52.
Andrew Booth—the boys junior basketball team coach— was happy with the results and the young squad's consistence through out the game.
"I really appreciate how the boys supported each other, we kept together, we didn't disintegrate...we trusted our defence and we turned it into a win," Booth said, "Our strong point is raw athleticism and we are learning to turn that into good basketball plays."
The junior teams are now on a break until school resumes after January 7.
