They’ll be in Friday’s parade, and then the members of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) Mounted Troop will be parading their talents for the community at the Lac La Biche Agricultural Grounds rodeo arena.

On Friday afternoon, the active-duty soldiers and their horses will provide a precision riding performance of cavalry maneuvers dating back more than 100 years.

The hoof-thumping demonstration of their military riding skills was a crowd-favourite at last year’s Pow Wow Days event, at their first local appearance. Back by popular demand, the Lord Strathcona’s will also spend time with community members following Friday afternoon’s performance.

For those who saw last year’s display, there will be some changes planned for this year. A big change will be the uniforms of the soldiers. Last year’s event saw the troop in drab greens to celebrate and honour the 100th anniversary of the Strathcona’s well documented 1918 battle in the France’s Moreuil Wood during World War One. This year’s display will feature the riders in their ceremonial red tunics and shiny brass helmets.

The show gets underway at 4 pm. Admission is free, but a silver collection is appreciated, say Pow Wow Days Association organizers. The event will coincide with the weekly Farmers’ Market. There will be 50/50 draws as well.
