Each player contributed different non-perishable food items to the Lac La Biche Canadian Native Friendship Centre’s Waskaysoo Food Bank.

Peewee teams throughout Hockey Canada are a part of the Good Deeds Cup—where teams sign up and do good deeds— and through the donation, the young athletes from this local Peewee hockey team marked one of the ‘good deeds’ off their list.

The young squad was accompanied by team manager Julia Collins, coach Jordan Gauthier and assistant coach Tony Nowicki. Collins is proud of the players’ individual contributions to gather all the food for the donation.

“Every player on the team donated food and brought it into the food bank,” she said.

The team’s display of generosity does not stop with the donation. They are also planning to continue doing their good deeds in other ways as well, Collins expressed.

“Our next good deed that we are looking at doing is having the kids go out and skate with the Initiation team ... helping them skate and mentoring them,” she said.

Keep it coming

Nicole Cardinal, who is in-charge of the food bank, was grateful for the donation, and expressed how this is the busiest time of the year for them. She also mentioned some of the food items that they have been short on.

“ We have been short on rice, lunch stuff for the kids, juice boxes, vegetables and fruits” she said, adding that they get some assistance from Edmonton’s food bank if they run low on some items, but donations from the locals are always welcomed and appreciated.
