CNRL’s Chris Best and Calvin Lozinski-Kumpula presents a cheque of $2500 to Hope Haven’s Executive Director Melissa Green

Giving back has always been a key part of the Holiday season, which means many Canadians were gearing up to share some cash with those in need. Members of Canadian Natural Resources Limited's Employee Society also joined in to participate in the generous cause, when they donated $2500 to Lac La Biche Hope Haven Women's Shelter.

Calvin Lozinski-Kumpula, who is a Site Engineer for CNRL represents the organization's Employee Society. Lozinski-kumpula was accompanied by Chris Best—Canadian Natural's Stakeholder Relations Advisor— when they presented the cheque to Hope Haven Women Shelter's Executive Director, Melissa Green.

"Every year, we have a Christmas party and we have always got deposits that we return, this year we thought instead of returning the deposits, we will actually contribute them to charity. We had everyone (that came to the Christmas party) send us $20 each and CNRL matched our contribution and we ended up with about $2500," said Lozinski-kumpula.

Best mentioned how CNRL has had a long relationship with Hope Haven and emphasized on strengthening the relations between the two organizations even more by continuing to generously donate and help in times it is needed most.

"Holidays can be hard time for families facing economic challenges...Hope Haven have clientele that need safe places to be and those clientele often has kids," Best said," Hope Haven over the years have been able to provide those people with a safe warm spot and given them a taste of Christmas...also tending to the necessaries of toiletries as well as gifts and nutritious food. I am glad that we can be part of bringing Christmas to those in need. "

Green mentioned how grateful she was for all the help and support they get from most of the organizations in the region and the locals in the community while she talked about the limitations and challenges they have to face as an organization.

"Our government funding really only goes so far and most of it is year marked for specific things. It's so nice to get donations like this over the Holidays, so our families can have a real Christmas while they are here," Green stated," Some of it also goes out to our outreach clients who have been here and are now back in the own places, but don't have the finances to be able to provide a good Christmas meal or gifts for their children, so it's these donations that really matter."

Hope Haven Women's Shelter is still welcoming donations from the community. Apart from cash donations, locals can always donate different items that they are not using. Currently, on the shelter's Wishlist are towels and facecloths, sheets and pillowcases, blankets, feminine hygiene products, suitcases, socks, disposable diapers and deodorant. For donations, call the administration office at 780-623-3104.
