Traffic on Highway 55 was re-routed this morning after a man was killed in a crash between a car and a semi-truck about five kilometres west of Lac La Biche.

Lac La Biche RCMP are confirming that one man was killed in a head-on collision early this morning on Highway 55 west of Lac La Biche.

Police are saying a 39-year-old Boyle man was killed in the crash that happened at about 1:15 am on a stretch of the highway just west of the intersection with Highway 663, about five kilometres west of Lac La Biche.

Lac La Biche RCMP say the preliminary investigation shows that a westbound car crossed the centre line and collided head-on with the eastbound tractor trailer unit.

The driver of the semi truck was not physically injured.  Police have not said if there were other occupants of the car.

Traffic on the highway was detoured for several hours as police and collision analysts investigated. The road has now been opened to traffic.

RCMP say the name of the deceased man will not be released and no further updates are expected.
