Simone Page, an Albertan window painter is helping local businesses in Lac La Biche 'welcome the world' for the 2019 World Archery 3D Championships.

The Spruce Grove-based artist is painting store-fronts and windows of local businesses with 'the big archery sign' and each country's flag — whose athletes will be participating in the world archery championship held in Lac La Biche from September 2-7.

Page started her window painting project in Lac La Biche with Britton's Independent Grocers, she did the Parkland Motel lobby entrance yesterday (August 27), and is currently working on Tom's Pizza's Storefront. It's a busy week for her, she says, as more local businesses are being added to  her list before the archery event kicks off on Monday. Upcoming businesses seeing a window makeover will include the Lac La Biche IGA, Kut'N'Kurl,  Twintel and others.

Artsy past

Page has been painting and has been in the arts business for the past 13 years. Initially starting with hairstyling, she has always had an interest in arts, and her inspiration is drawn from beautification, she says, while she name some of her previous projects which she has worked on.

"I always wanted to make the world a more colourful and beautiful place... I always had a strong interest in the arts," she said. "I do a lot in Camrose for Big Valley Jamboree. I do a lot in the city (Edmonton) for Canada Day and St. Patrick's Day. I have done a big mural in Camrose for Tish's Dress Shop, it's about 40 feet... That was one of the biggest projects that I worked on. I have done a lot of work for Smoky Lake for their Pumpkin Fair for the last 10 years (as well)."

As for her upcoming projects (other than the current window painting project that she is working on in Lac La Biche), there are a number of things Page is expecting. This includes more window painting projects and some murals in the Fall. Business being usually busy in the Fall, Page calls November as one of her busiest months — due to a number of projects mainly involving Christmas decorations.

"We are heading into Fall now so, it's going to be mainly window painting and possibly a few murals coming up in the future. Nothing is confirmed at this point yet. Of course my biggest months is coming up in November for Christmas," she added.
