Next phase of $32.5 million downtown Lac La Biche construction begins

Earthwork will block Main Street from 101 Street to 102 Street until October

The next phase of the $32.5 million Main Street Revitalization project — Phase Three — started on Tuesday, April 23.

Phase One of the project began in 2019 with the re-paving and replacement of utility lines under the stretch of Main Street from 105 Street at the Almac Hotel to 103 Street. That phase, which wrapped up in 2020, also included upgrades to the Richard Devonian Park near the Tags Esso store. After a year break, as municipal councillors re-evaluated the rising costs of the Main Street project, which had increased from an original budget of $16.5 million, the second phase saw the stretch of the main downtown artery from 103 Street to 102 Street upgraded partially through last year's construction season.

This year, the block of Main Street from 101 Street to 102 Street will be under construction. Like last year, the construction project will see an entire area of construction fence block off the street, restrict front access to most businesses. The construction project is expected to continue through the end of October.

The final year of the project will upgrade an area from 101 Street at the downtown ATB branch to the entrance to the Lac La Biche Recreation Grounds and McArthur Park.
